Thank You Supporters of Fisk Concert 2016

To All Fisk Sponsors and Concert Attendees: Praise God! The 2016 Fisk Fund Raiser and Church Anniversary event was a smashing success! We had a later start in pulling it together this year, and we had a very aggressive goal of raising $10,000.00 for the Fisk Choir. But God…..! Through His Blessings we were able to exceed the goal, for the first time in the ten year relationship we have enjoyed with Fisk.  Through the generous sponsors and concert guest donations we raised $10,904.26 for the Fisk General Scholarship Fund, our largest donation in the ten years we have partnered with Fisk! What a way to celebrate Sherman’s 94th Anniversary! The Fisk committee came together and provided all seed funds and other expenses for the concert, allowing for more of the donations to go to Fisk and SUMC. As always, the reception meal was donated by MacArthur’s Restaurant as a donation to this major event. We would like to offer our heartfelt Thank you to the sponsors and all the members of Sherman United Methodist Church for their support and efforts in making this event a success! Without your generous donations of funds and time we could not have completed this year’s mission! Thank God for all of you! A special Thank You goes out to the 2016 Fisk Committee as they worked tirelessly to ensure we had a great concert and a successful fundraising event for both Fisk and SUMC.   Thank You, Fisk Committee Members: Basil Clunie                 Cheryl Kendrick                     Dino Robinson Gloria Hamilton         Lawrence Hamilton               Mildred Parker Tramaine Parker        Venita Fields                           Veronica Stanford-Davenport Garry Archie – Chair              Rev. Fisk University Choir in Concert for Tenth Consecutive Year!

Posted by on Sep 28, 2016 in Fisk Choir Concert & Committee, Music

It’s time! Time to be uplifted and amazed by The Fisk University Choir. Join us on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 7pm, and help us show these young people just how much their lives matter. For the tenth consecutive year, we are proud to host The Fisk University Choir in concert. Besides blessing us with wonderful music, the concert supports an excellent university that continues to educate African-American scholars and leaders. With the help of generous sponsors, in the past nine years Sherman has been able to raise almost $50,000 that went directly to Fisk. This event raises funds for both Fisk University and Sherman United Methodist Church, which is celebrating its 94th year of “sharing the love of God in word and actions” with programs for the hungry, for youth and helping support a missionary in Liberia. Please consider partnering with us as a sponsor to support both Fisk students and the ministries of Sherman United Methodist Church that support struggling families. Check our sponsorship packages, listed below, to see how you can help. Join us as we support Fisk University and give hope to struggling families. Your donation is a symbol that all lives matter. Join in our ministry: Download our letter with sponsorship information, and please encourage others to do the same. Fisk 2016 Letter with sponsor...

New Beginnings 2016 – Welcome Rev. Dr. Morgan

Posted by on Jun 27, 2016 in Uncategorized

NEW BEGINNINGS “I know the plans I have for you declared the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 The Staff Pastor Parish Relations Committee invites you to join us at Sherman United Methodist Church at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2016, for the worship service. Our new pastor, Rev. Dr. Barbara Morgan, will preach and participate in a Service of Pastoral Appointment. Following the worship service, there will be a special hospitality, where you can meet and greet Dr. Morgan in Winfield Hall. Regarding Dr. Morgan, she is an ordained Elder and currently serves as associate pastor of St. Mark, the largest predominately African American United Methodist Church in the Chicago metro area. Prior to joining St. Mark’s ministerial team, she served for several years as the senior pastor of New Gresham and Greenstone United Methodist Churches in Chicago. Dr. Morgan graduated valedictorian from Lucy Flower High School in Chicago. She received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Roosevelt University, a Masters in Development of Human Resources from National Louis University, and a Masters of Divinity from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. She completed her Doctorate in Ministry at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio, where she was a James Stein Scholar. Her course of study pertained to women in ministry and liberation theology. Dr. Morgan is an Advisory Board Member of Kairos Outside Prison Ministry and is a member of SOUL (South-siders Organized for Unity and Liberation). She has served as chaplain at Northwestern Hospital and the Mather Foundation in Evanston. Her mission ministry has included trips to Israel, Greece, and South Africa, where she sought dialogue and liberation for the marginalized and oppressed. Dr. Morgan’s theology is that we serve a God of the oppressed, that suffering knows no class, cultural, or geographical boundaries, that wherever you find suffering, you will find the Lord Jesus Christ. Our District Superintendent, Rev. Dr. Zaki L. Zaki, describes Dr. Morgan as a strong preacher, a caring pastor, and an effective leader and communicator.
