Tramaine and Friends 2018

A concert showcasing the talents of Tramaine Parker  and her friends

Brandon Lampkin, Isaiah Robinson, Joseph Kern, Lauren Robinson, Allie Bradford, Austin Echols, Sophia Byrd, Ayanna Woods, Jamila Woods, Timothy Fett, and Phillip Armstrong.

The talented singers are alumni of the world renown, Chicago Children’s Choir, the Grammy-nominated Fisk Jubilee Singers, the Fisk University Choir, and voices from the choir of Sherman United Methodist Church.  Some of the vocalists have performed with or for Chance the Rapper, Oscar Brown, Jr., Celine Dion, Beyoncé, Andrea Bocelli, Bobby McFerrin, Kurt Elling, Miriam Anderson and President Bill Clinton, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera, Carnegie Hall as well as at Ravinia, the Black Ensemble Theater, and the Harris Theater. Members of the group are recording artists, have sung on radio and television and toured in Africa, Russia, South Korea and Argentina.

Tramaine S. Parker began singing at the age of  four in the angelic choir at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Chicago. She later joined the Chicago Children’s Choir where she began traveling throughout the United States and internationally performing various genres of music (gospel, spirituals, pop, classical and R&B.) While singing in the Chicago Children’s Choir, Tramaine had the opportunity to perform
at several venues including Ravinia in Highland Park, IL, Carnegie Hall, Riverside Church in New York and the Harris Music and Dance theatre to name a few. During her matriculation at Lincoln Park High School, Tramaine received honor superior ratings for the City and State solo competitions. She graduated
from Fisk University with a B.A. in Psychology and Roosevelt University with a M.A. in Clinical Professional Psychology. While studying at Fisk, Tramaine was a member of the Fisk University Choir and Grammy nominated Fisk Jubilee Singers. Today, Tramaine continues to perform as a soloist in the Chicagoland area and travel as a guest soloist with the Fisk University Choir.  She has performed with a number of choral ensembles including the John Work Chorale and Vocality, a festival chorus comprised of alumni and current members of Chicago Children’s Choir as well as young vocal artists from a wide array of communities within and surrounding the city of Chicago. In addition to performing, Tramaine works for the Illinois Department of Children Family & Services as an investigator.

178th Northern Illinois Annual Conference

The 178th Northern Illinois Conference of the UMC Annual Conference will be held June 4-6 at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Ill. The theme is “Light Shines Through” Online registration is now $95. After May 20 registration will only be onsite at $130. Hotel reservations may be made at Pheasant Run through May 10. The rate remains $119 + tax. Display Tables applications are due May 19. Cost is $25 per table and $45 for table with electrical outlet. For more Annual Conference information visit:

Our Chicago Northwestern District is being asked to support the Midwest Mission Distribution Center in the preparation of Personal Dignity Kits by supplying nail clipper sets and razors (individually wrapped). These items can be purchased at Dollar Tree stores. In addition, we are being asked to support the Bishop’s appeal for 2017 with a monetary contribution that will go to the United Methodist Global Aids Fund. Sherman UMC is currently seeking an administrative secretary to serve part-time (12-16 hours per week). This position will report to the pastor and perform the following essential job functions: maintain sensitive and confidential files; type, collate and assemble copies of church bulletins, reports, and letters; answer phones and take messages; sort and distribute mail; order office supplies, and; perform other clerical/administrative tasks as assigned.

Must be detail-oriented and able to work with minimum supervision, have a professional phone manner, excellent communication skills, and the ability to use Microsoft Office and Outlook proficiently. We offer $12.50/hour, a pleasant work environment close to public transportation, and a flexible work schedule when necessary and approved.
