Ministry matters at Sherman UMC!

A few of SUMC’s ministries include:

Welcoming Committee:
Our legacy began in 1922 with a call to fill a need for a spiritual home. In response Mrs. Lula B. Sherman opened up her home and a founding group began to build a ministry of welcoming in. No person who enters our doors is ever just a body in a pew.
As a sacred ministry of helping, the SUMC Welcoming Ministry is called to humbly serve as forerunners who prepare the church for worship, serve as greeters, guards, ushers, doorkeepers, and who work as a cohesive team, demonstrating hospitality and helping to provide a welcoming, comfortable and safe environment for all worshipers.

Outreach Committee:
We support Sarah’s Circle, a refuge for women who are homeless or in need of a safe space.
We host the Soup Kitchen at St. Paul Lutheran 3 to 4 times a year.
SUMC participates in the yearly CROP Hunger Walk

Children and Youth:
Children’s Sunday School meets at 11:15 am during the Worship service.
Every 5th Sunday of the month is Children and Youth Sunday. 5th Sunday Falls on April 30, July 30, October 29, and December 31. Our Children and Youth take the lead in service as Readers, Presenters and Worship Leaders, and in delivering the message. When designated, 5th Sunday Offerings usually go to children’s ministry at SUMC or in the Evanston community.
