Welcome to Sherman United Methodist Church
You will see our ministry as you walk through our doors. We will greet you with a smile as an old friend and offer a warming word.
You will see our ministry through hospitality as we serve a fellowship meal. You will see a table dedicated to to inviting you into our ministries just inside our Noyes Street door.Check out church bulletins and flyers from other organizations. Feel free to take one.
Sherman United Methodist Church is built on a mission dedicated to creating an environment that lifts the heart and becomes a sanctuary for the soul that feeds the hungry in body and spirit. Our legacy began in 1922 with a call to fill a need for a spiritual home. In response Mrs. Lula B. Sherman opened up her home and a founding group began to build a ministry of welcoming in. No person who enters our doors is ever just a body in a pew.
Welcoming Ministry Mission Statement:
As a sacred ministry of helping, the SUMC Welcoming Ministry is called to humbly serve as forerunners who prepare the church for worship, serve as greeters, guards, ushers, doorkeepers, and who work as a cohesive team, demonstrating hospitality and helping to provide a welcoming, comfortable and safe environment for all worshipers.
Psalm 84:10: “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tent of wickedness.”
1 Corinthians 14:40: “Let all things be done decently and in order.”
1 Corinthians 12:28: “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, HELPs, governments, diverse kinds of tongues.”
Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of Man came not to be served, but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
